This wearable, fully articulated reconstruction of a plate armour for the knees, as worn in the late Middle Ages, is designed to protect the knee area from the lower thigh to the upper shin. It is crafted from 1.6 mm (16 gauge) steel and blackened on the inside for better corrosion resistance.

The leg armour consists of poleyns (knee caps, also known as genouilleres), short cuisses with braided cords (incl. brass tips), and short greaves. All parts are connected together by sliding plates or lames that are hinged on sturdy steel rivets, thus allowing for adequate freedom of movement. The upper edge of the cuisses and the lower edge of the greaves are rolled, and the poleyns extend into distinctive, fishtail-shaped wings on the outer sides.
At the back, three riveted, adjustable, approx. 3 mm thick leather straps with steel buckles allow for a comfortable, custom fit.

Equally suited for medieval re-enactment, LARP, stage, TV/film or costuming, these articulated knee guards are most fitting for late medieval settings and ideal to complete the armour of a European warrior or knight.

The poleyns are sold as a pair.
